First osteopathic appointment
A moment of listening and sharing.
The first osteopathic appointment is a fundamental moment of listening, assessment and holistic understanding of the person. Each consultation is carefully and personally structured, with the aim of identifying the origin of the problem and building an appropriate therapeutic pathway.
How it works
History-taking
The visit begins with a thorough medical history: clinical background, reason for the consultation, previous conditions, trauma, surgical interventions, lifestyle and general health.
It is helpful to bring any available clinical documentation: reports, instrumental examinations, imaging. For newborns and children, it is important to also bring the paediatric health booklet and documentation relating to the pregnancy, birth and the child's development.
Clinical tests and functional assessment
Orthopaedic, neurological, semeiotic, osteopathic and functional tests are performed to assess the correct functioning of body structures and deepen the clinical picture.
Objective examination and osteopathic assessment
Through postural observation, movement analysis, assessment of joint and tissue mobility, and palpatory examination, a global assessment of the body is carried out to identify any dysfunctions and functional alterations.
Therapeutic plan
Based on the information gathered, a personalised therapeutic plan is defined, built around the patient's specific needs and shared clinical goals.
Osteopathic treatment
Treatment is tailored to the individual and may integrate different manual approaches, including musculoskeletal, myofascial, functional, craniosacral and visceral techniques, with the aim of supporting functional recovery and improving mobility.
Advice, exercises and collaboration
The visit includes personalised guidance, exercises, postural advice and strategies for daily management. Where necessary, the pathway is integrated through collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
Please note
The thorough history-taking and clinical assessment also allow identification of any contraindications to osteopathic treatment, red flags or conditions requiring further diagnostic investigation, enabling — where necessary — referral to the most appropriate healthcare professional.
